Happy New Year! 2011 Resolutions
This is much briefer than recent years, I promise!
1. Think less, do more. 2. Don’t sweat what other people think of me. 3. Live honorably 4. FIGHT THE FOMO (fear of missing out) 5. Live without regret

So You Think You're Not Getting the Respect You...
Then you probably haven’t earned it yet. It’s pretty easy to get discouraged, though. So let’s learn from people who lived in harder times:
Gandhi, on the seven deadly sins:
Wealth without Work
Pleasure without Conscience
Science without Humanity
Knowledge without Character
Politics without Principle
Commerce without Morality
Worship without Sacrifice
Sun Tzu, on making...

– Holy moly, sent shivers down my spine. Read Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson (and the article) if you have a chance.
Dude, Nvm
I just watched CNN Newsroom go on and on about how the NE is buried in snow and hardly any airports are running… it’s hard to feel sympathy for anyone south of the Mason-Dixie line. We should all move to California @_@ (or Hawaii…)

Houston has finally decided to get with the program and dropped 30-40 degrees. It was 70 when I rolled into town, went to a high of 80 at some point, and on Christmas Eve, a random rainstorm blew through. When I walked into the Asian party my parents made me go to, it was 60 degrees and I was wearing a skirt, and when I came out, it was below freezing. ASDF -_-
My parents don’t believe in...
Aw, Maaaa...
Mom: (looks at my painting) Is that you?
Me: Well, yes, I tried to paint a self-portrait.
Mom: Ah, it looks like you!
Me: Thanks!
Mom: But that is the ugliest thing I've ever seen!
[P.S. I love my mom, but she is even more direct than I am. I also think she's hilarious.]
Mom: (continues) Have you heard of this Chinese movie called "Ugly Girl"?! It's about...

Some Regrets
I wish that I:
1) Studied abroad, even if it’s in England (the only place my dad would consider letting me go to)
2) Kept up with/didn’t suck at gymnastics
3) Joined a dance team when I was younger
4) Was the kind of person that is easier to help/depended on others more
5) Started learning programming earlier!
6) Majored in history… no joke
7) Got a chance to apply to...
Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse!
It’s like a smorgasbord of fun astrological phenomena today! Unfortunately, I can’t see a thing and I’m too lazy to go outside/somewhere that’s not polluted DX I hope the timescapes guy makes a lunar eclipse time lapse so I’ll get to watch it later, sped up and with cool music.
Me: Hey Dad, am I gonna get any Christmas presents this year? :D
Dad: No! Your...

A Confession, Part II
Just realized I don’t need to be doing a ten day challenge to drop these little tidbits once in a while. ^__^
Confession for today: I routinely drop my writings in random journals, whenever I am told of the opportunity. (F-Word, Cornell’s Rainy Day, River of Words, a lot of random poetry mags at random schools, Columbia East Asia Review, Urban Confustions, etc etc) As I was sending...
Just So Y'all Know...
Though I am slowly falling intensely in love with Tumblr, this isn’t my real blog! (Well… it is a blog… and it is real…) But anything I post with substance is at synergism.wordpress.com.
Because though I love Tumblr, this cute young plaything, I was the ten year old elitist blogger on b2 and Movable Type and Xanga and Livejournal and this weird elitist blogging community...

I really like the idea of this exhibit in that it features Muslim inventions, but this is such a passive aggressive review…

I’m not off the hook yet for never learning Flash.

A Confession
Among my #1 pet peeves: people who try too hard for recruiting. >.> 99% of that douchebaggery is not constructive, it just makes you look desperate.

It's 3:30AM and my printer's talking to me.
Stop your complaining, you cheap Epson. I’m only putting up with you because my college quality of life can’t afford a LaserJet. Like any cheap company, the cost of upkeep is so much higher than the actual underlying value.
And damn it, Tumblr, don’t you start “we’re sorry for the inconvenience”-ing me again!

Only a designer would get so excited about the overwhelming amount of EXCELLENT sans serif fonts on this website!!!!!!
Excellent, excellent contemporary art →
So much of it is that gory, post-Cultural Revolution Chinese installation style. It puts me on edge, love it. At least it’s not Zhang Huan covered in honey and flies in a public toilet, a gruesome dedication to Ai Weiwei’s crazy work as a contemporary artist/trailblazer/flaming lunatic of an artist. Chinese contemporary art is ridiculous, almost disgusting with its extremity. I guess...
